Robbers Cave...A wonderful destination close to home

Robbers Cave State Park has a wonderful history and is fun for the whole family.  Whether you like to hike, photograph beautiful scenery, or relive tales from the wild wild west Robbers Cave has something for you.  There are eight thousand acres including 3 lakes so there is never a shortage of fun.  We had fun camping on several camping trips with the Oklahoma Travelers Club.  In my opinion, the best time to camp at Robbers Cave is in the middle of summer.  The caves feel about 20 degrees cooler and are fun to explore this time of year.  While our family was there we enjoyed riding horses and always made sure we could get some good fishing time in our trip.

Ours sons enjoyed learning the history of Robbers Cave and the tale of Jesse James.  The Ouachita Mountains were wild and rugged back in the 1800's and the people that manage the State Park love to talk to the children about the gold and silver that has been hidden in the caves for so many years.  The caves are said to be 40 feet back and have a clear spring that runs through them.  Robbers cave is just four miles north of Wilberton on State Hwy 2.

The camping club always picked that area to camp in every July because there was so much to do and the difference in the climate around the caves.  We enjoyed having pot-lucks and eating at nearby restaurants.  In 2002 Robbers Cave was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Boy Scout of America Owns owns 120 acres of land nearby plus the wildlife management is also there.  Deer, wild turkey and quail can be found in the park.  Our family suggests that you plan a trip to Robbers Cave no matter were you may be from.  We have owned campers and camped with our family for over 20 years, it truly is the best time of your life being away from everyday distractions and enjoying nature and your children!

A great place to camp!!!

My wife and I love to go to Colorado in the fall to see the aspens turn golden.  The aspens turn in the middle of September through the first week in October.  We have found the last week of October to be the peak of the fall show.  We have been to many Colorado fall trips.  The best, in my opinion, is Rocky Mountain National Park.

Rocky Mountain National Park is about 2 1/2 hours north of Denver.  The last week of September brings the wild Elk down from the mountains into the town of Estes Park, Colorado.  Estes Park is a small tourist town with gift shops and restaurants only 1 mile from Rocky Mountain National Park.  Don't be surprised if you see an elk walking and eating grass right in town.

I hope you can experience a fun fall get-a-way to Estes Park, Colorado.  Take plenty of pictures and enjoy the beauty God created.  If you starting to plan your vacation for this year a great RV park with breathtaking views and 169 full service RV sites is the Elk Meadow Lodge & RV Resort at 1665 Colorado HWY 66, Estes Park, CO 80517, (970)586-5342
