    Gatlinburg Is In The Bag

Surely everyone over the age of 20 knows this iconic comedy??? It flooded our minds as we set at the gates of Dollywood today and the elderly woman told us the park was closed.  My exact words to her “I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic or not.”  Her exact words to me “I’m not.”  She said this with the most straight serious, no nonsense expression that we just stared at her for a bit without knowing what to say.  SOOOOO new plan!  But first this pic of a broken-hearted little girl who had been hearing amusement park praises for a week.

Thankfully there are tons of activities in Pigeon Forge, so instead we filled our afternoon with go carts, bumper boats (Abbey is not a fan), putt-putt, and the Great Smokies!  Side note, I think I have played enough putt-putt to last me awhile.

In truth is was probably best that Dollywood was closed, otherwise we would not have done our final two activities in Gatlinburg and they were by far my favorite! Laurel Falls and Cade’s Cove.

    Laurel Falls

You can’t go to the mountains and do at least 1 hike.  We chose Laurel Falls because it is kid friendly.  The hike is paved and shaded most of the way and you are rewarded with a beautiful crisp mountain waterfall that is well worth the effort of the climb.

    Cade's Cove

I really didn't know what to expect from Cade's Cove.  I thought it was just a quick drive through the Smokies.  IT IS NOT.  It is a beautiful scenic, historical, and wildlife-filled drive.  At the start of the trip you can pick up a booklet that describes the founding of Cade's Cove and all the historical sites that you can stop and see.  We took almost 3 hours and stopped at most of the sites.  I would go back in a heartbeat! It was so much fun!  I highly HIGHLY recommend this for anyone traveling even remotely close to Gatlinburg and I haven't even told you about the wildlife.  We saw no less than 7 black bears.  Leaving Cade's Cove we saw a mother bear and two baby cubs crossing the street.  It was AMAZING!  I know I said it the other day but GO, just GO!

We head out tomorrow.  We had so much fun in Gatlinburg but know there is still so much that we didn't get a chance to do.  We have already decided to add this on our list of future camping trips.  Do you have any suggestions of other must do Gatlinburg activities?

I almost forgot!  If you happen to see these in the store buy them!  They are phenominal!  They didn't make it back to the campsite with us.  They were gone in a matter of minutes.
