    Not what we had planned

I’m not going to lie, camping is not always sunshine, rosy memories, and relaxing sunsets.  Sometimes there are break downs outside of manure laden cow pastures, major traffic jams, and campgrounds that leave much to be desired. However, then there are times you pull up to your campsite and think you must have just won the RV lottery.  Today…we experienced both.

I am not a patient person.  Traffic jams do not inspire anything good in me!  So, when we got stuck for over 2 hours trying to get through a 5 mile stretch of interstate I was steadily focused on not losing my cool.  Thank goodness we were in a motorhome!  The kids were barely phased.  Instead they got to treat themselves to wrestling matches, popcorn, playdough, and coloring.  If we would have been in a car I think I would have just gotten out and started walking!  In fact, one lady did…which brought us to the “kids, this is why you don’t do drugs” section of the day.  Let’s just say the lady appeared to be struggling with more than a traffic jam.

The traffic jam ate up a large portion of our afternoon, but boy-oh-boy did our moods pick up when we rounded the corner to our KOA!  This is the most beautiful campground I have ever stayed in!  The entire grounds are immaculate.  Our campsite, OH our campsite!  Pictures can’t even explain how relaxing this is!!!  We back up right to the river and have an awesome deck to rock the mornings away.  The moment we pulled in to our campsite I was already sad we have to leave in a few days.

I am not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but we have been on the Keto diet for about 6 weeks.  I have tons of keto camping recipes planned and packed for us to stay strong on Keto throughout are vacation.  Well, this, my friend, is where it all went wrong…We stepped into Smoking Joe’s BBQ for dinner.  My brain was saying smoked chicken and side salad, my heart was saying fried okra and sweet potato fries…my brain did not win.  The sweet potato fries tasted like a heavenly cinnamon sugar dessert paired with a completely sinful cream cheese and marshmallow concoction of some sort.  Keep in mind that I haven’t had sugar in weeks, so this was a treat of unquantifiable measure.  If you are ever in the Townsend/Gatlinburg area just go!  That is all that needs to be said.

I apologize for the half eaten plate of food picture.  I simply just couldn't resist when they set the plate in front of me!
